I am a former Inclusive Excellence Program Fellow here at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I have a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from UW-Whitewater, as well as represented UWM Cultures and Community Department as a distinguished 2013-14 Imagining America P.A.G.E. Scholar, (Publicly Active Graduate in Education).
I've taught sections of Advance Painting, Computer Graphics for the Artist, Introduction to Creative Enterprises, Visual Design for Digital Media and various sections of World of the Arts.
My professional background and work experiences have included positions at large and small graphic design companies, advertising agencies and marketing communications firms, where I served in positions such as Chief Creative Officer, Global Marketing Brands Manager, Creative Director and Art Director while concurrently painting for more than 15 years as a professional visual artist.
Recently my volunteer service have included roles as: Board member of the Urban Economic Development Association of Wisconsin (UEDA), Milwaukee Art Museum African-American Art Alliance–Board of Directors and former board member of the City of Milwaukee–Arts Board. I have been included in exhibitions at The Madison Overture Center Galleries, UWM Peck School of the Arts INOVA Gallery, Charles Allis Fine Arts Museum, Northern Kentucky University, The Charles A. Wustum Fine Arts Museum, The Milwaukee Art Museum, Juxtaposition Gallery Minneapolis, Susan Woodson Gallery Chicago, and many others.
My current body of work as a visual artist has developed as a result of a collaboration with the Milwaukee Art Museum Chipstone Foundation curatorial staff, Jon Prown, Executive Director/Chief Curator and Sarah Carter, Curator/Director of Research, whereby I was able, help to creatively re-imagine the history of African-American Design & Material culture. As part of the re-installation of the Milwaukee Art Museum which reopened it's doors November 22, 2015. I was able to produce eight original paintings that are featured in The Dave Project Gallery, currently on view.
David Drake, also known as “Dave the Potter” was a highly talented and historically significant ceramic artisan (ca.1800-1870s). Dave’s story and craftsmanship inspired The Dave Project Gallery, which celebrates the lives and work of historic African-American makers. Each image is based on careful research and my own creative response to the objects. These paintings enrich the stories we are able to tell about these artists by visualizing the worlds these objects once inhabited.
