Michael Flanagan is currently the Director of the Crossman Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he has been working since 1995. The Crossman Gallery hosts a variety of curated shows including an annual national ceramic invitational; exhibits by international contemporary artists and exhibits of regional and nationally recognized artists in a variety of media.

In addition to managing the gallery, he teaches a General Education class and a basic art course in the Department of Art and Design. He is a Mentor for the Beaux Arts Colony Learning Community and is the Coordinator for the World of the Arts instructors in the College of Arts and Communication.  Flanagan is also an elected representative on the Academic Staff Assembly.

Flanagan has traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico with colleagues from UW-Whitewater to help establish a working relationship with the art department at la Universidad Autonoma Benito Juarez de Oaxaca (UABJO).  He recently conducted a Museografia Workshop with students at the university and mounted an exhibit of contemporary prints by artists from Oaxaca.

He is a member of the Board at the Walker's Point Center of the Arts in Milwaukee where he chairs the Exhibition Committee.
