Mrs. Prisha Gustina received her Master of Music Education degree in 2002 from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, WI. From the University of WI-LaCrosse, she received a Bachelor of Science Extended Vocal Music degree in the field of Music Education. Mrs. Gustina is Kodály certified and has ten years of Suzuki piano training.
Mrs. Gustina currently teaches General Music Methods and Early Childhood Music Methods for UW-Whitewater.
At the collegiate level, Mrs. Gustina taught Early Childhood Music Methods in 2014 for UW-Whitewater. From 2002-2013, she taught music appreciation to adult learners for Concordia University - Beloit Campus.
Prisha’s past also includes teaching children K-12 music for over 30 years. She retired from the School District of Beloit with 24 years of service in the WI public school system. Mrs. Gustina is Kodaly certified and has had many years of Suzuki piano training. She has presented sessions at the following conferences, workshops, and universities: ISME Beijing, China, MKMEA Milwaukee, WI, MKMEA Wichita, KS, CAKE Chicago, IL, AWAKE Manitowoc, WI, School Dist 162 Matteson, IL, Wales Elementary Kettle Moraine, WI, University of WI-Oshkosh, and University of WI-Whitewater.
Mrs. Gustina is a member of NAfME and OAKE. She served on the AWAKE board (affiliate of OAKE) from 2009-2015 as President-Elect, President, and Past President.
During her years working with children in the public schools, she recognized the need to improve music education practices to help children achieve higher-level music literacy skills and musicianship. Her passion to reach out and make a difference led her to develop the Steps to Music Literacy curriculum. For more information about this curriculum see http://www.stepstomusicliteracy.com.
Besides Steps to Music Literacy, Mrs. Gustina is the author of “Which Tune Is it?” from Kaleidoscope – A Collection of Standards-Based Lessons for the K-7 General Music Classroom compiled and edited by Denese Odegaard and published by Alfred. This new collection was recently released in the fall of 2017.
