Brian Bentel attended the University of Wyoming and Texas A&M University, earning a Sociology doctorate at the latter in 1999 with specialties in Social Psychology and Culture. He was a professor of sociology at East Central University in Oklahoma from 1999 to 2010. Since 2010 he has served as a lecturer for UWW, teaching a wide variety of courses for the Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Anthropology, including Sociological Principles, Social Problems, Individual and Society, Social Theory, Juvenille Delinquency, Sociology of Drugs and Crime, Social Psychology, and Population Studies.

Brian’s scholarly work has centered around a theoretical exploration of the relationship between our primitive human brain and the postmodern society to which this brain must adapt.  From this starting point he has presented and published work on the subjects of religion, politics, morality, values, identity, culture, and individualism. Brian is also fond of applying classical sociological theory to contemporary social phenomena, often synthesizing such time-tested ideas with biological approaches like evolutionary psychology.

In his leisure time, Brian enjoys learning about a wide range of topics and creating a variety of works including novels, scripts, role-playing games, radio spots, informative videos, and songs. He is a musician, and has served as lead vocalist for a number of bands. Currently he is the lead singer of Titan Fun Key, a 1970s rock band. He also likes to play role-playing games. He lives in Whitewater with his wife, with whom he has one daughter.
