Drucker, Thomas

At UW-Whitewater

Thomas Drucker studied at Princeton University, Magdalen College (Oxford), the University of Toronto, and the University of Wisconsin.  His previous teaching positions have been at the University of Wisconsin--Extension and Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA).  His primary research interests are in the history and philosophy of mathematics, and he edited Perspectives on the History of Mathematical Logic (published 1991 and reprinted in 2008).  He has also served as co-editor of 'Modern Logic' and editor of the Bulletin of the Canadian Society for History and Philosophy of Mathematics.

Other particular interests include the Sherlock Holmes stories and the operas of Gilbert and Sullivan.  He is an enthusiastic player of chess and bridge, while his efforts on the tennis court and the table tennis table have occasionally been rewarded with victories.  He does not attend the meetings of Chess Club as regularly as he would like.  Among the individuals to whose memories he pays tribute for their influence on his life in and out of the classroom are Lloyd A. Walker, Michael Sean Mahoney, and S. Ned Rosenbaum.  Si monumenta eorum quaeris, circumspice.

Awards since coming to Whitewater include the CARE Award for working with non-traditional students, the Mary Pinkerton Spirit Award for the College of Letters and Sciences, and the Distinguished Teaching Award for 2019 from the Wisconsin section of the Mathematical Association of America.
