Canadian-American trombonist Dr. Carson King-Fournier currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Trombone at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has previously served on faculty at Louisiana State University, College of Saint Benedict & Saint John’s University, Augsburg University, Carleton College, and Macalester College. Dr. King-Fournier holds degrees from The Juilliard School, Northwestern University, and the University of Minnesota. His principal teachers include Joseph Alessi, Michael Mulcahy, Randall Hawes, Timothy Higgins, R. Douglas Wright, Kari Sundstrom, and Dr. John Tranter.

Adept as a multi-instrumentalist, Carson regularly performs in a multitude of styles on alto, contrabass, tenor, and bass trombones, euphonium, bass trumpet, and sackbut. His research has been presented at the International Trombone Festival and Heartland Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference. Carson has performed with a variety of ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He can be heard on both tenor and bass trombone on four of Minnesota Orchestra’s recent albums, Mahler’s Symphony No. 6, 7, 8, and 10.

Along with teaching at the college level, Carson maintains an active private studio teaching trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, and tuba, and serves on the faculty of the Shell Lake Arts Centre Trombone Workshop. His students have won numerous competitions including the Schubert Club and Thursday Musical Competitions, and have been accepted to various institutions including Juilliard Pre-College, Northwestern University, Indiana University, and Southern Methodist University, among others.

Carson is a Bach Trombone Artist and performs on Bach Model 36, 42, & 50 trombones.
