Dr. John Bowser is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, with a particular focus on health promotion and public health. He holds a PhD in Population Health Sciences from UW-Madison, where his research focused on physical activity epidemiology specifically on physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness among middle school students.

At UW-Whitewater, his research seeks to better understand health behaviors and how they change throughout the life-span. As an instructor, his focus is on educating students to better understand and be aware of the direct and indirect influences (pesronal, community, policy) that impact the decisions people make. In doing so, we are better prepared to positively impact everyday behaviors and related health outcomes.

Dr. Bowser has spent nearly 20 years in the fields of health promotion, public and poulation health conducting chronic disease prevention and treatment program evaluation and research in a variety of academic, government, and community settings. Roles have included Director of the Wisconsin Coverdell Stroke Program with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Research/Evaluation Consultant with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. He is currently serving in an evaluation role on a CDC-funded Comprehensive School Health grant (in conjunction with DPI) on a statewide level and, more directly, with the Menominee Indian School District.
