Bhandari, Avishek
Avishek Bhandari (Avi), Ph.D., CPA, is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed by the Accountancy Board of Ohio. His teaching spans undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral education, including financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, accounting analytics, and doctoral research methodology and seminars. He has also chaired and served several doctoral dissertation committees across a broad range of accounting and business research topics.
Avi’s research interests include auditing, financial reporting, corporate social responsibility, investments, insider trading, credit ratings, executive compensation, and applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence in accounting and finance. His research has appeared in leading accounting and finance journals, including the Journal of Corporate Finance, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, Issues in Accounting Education, Advances in Management Accounting, Accounting & Finance, International Journal of Managerial Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and Advances in Quantitative Analysis of Finance and Accounting. His research has also been referenced in policy sources and featured by more than 50 news outlets and other media sources, including Forbes, PR Newswire, and Columbia Law School’s Blog.
He has presented his research extensively at national and international academic conferences, including the American Accounting Association (AAA) Global Connect (formerly Annual Meeting) and Spark meetings. Avi also contributes to the profession through editorial and peer-review service. He serves as a Guest Editor for the Journal of Risk and Financial Management Special Issue on Machine Learning, Financial Disclosures, and Risk Assessment and as an Editorial Board Member of the Asian Review of Accounting. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for many accounting, finance, and interdisciplinary journals. Avi earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Florida Atlantic University, an M.S. in Accounting from Kent State University, and an MBA from Bowling Green State University.
